There are lots of benefits to eating less or no meat:
- It’s good for your health. Plant-based diets are much better for you.
- It’s good for the environment. Nearly 1/5 of all greenhouse gases are from livestock. Factory farms are also some of the worst polluters.
- It’s good for animals. They don’t have to die for your own eating pleasure.
Even if eating meat is essential for your particular nutritional needs, eating ethically raised and killed animals is a commitment we can all make. Tell store managers that you want a selection of ethical meat options and as more people advocate for and purchase meat prepared this way, the cost will decrease accordingly. Here are many ways to cut down on meat consumption:
Meatless Mondays – There’s a global movement to reduce meat consumption by 15%. All you have to do is cut out meat one day of the week. This is a good first step. Join the movement and check out their toolkits to get started.
